Victor-Marie Hugo was born on February 26, 1802. He was born in Besançon, France. He died on May 22, 1885 in Paris.
Childhood and Family Life
During his childhood, his parents marriage did not last, so Victor ended up living with his mother. During that time, the mother took the family on a trip to Italy for two years. Hugo began writing poetry and tragedy at an early age, around the age of thirteen years old. Also, when he was young he translated Virgil. Hugo published his first collection of poems in 1822. They were called Odes Et Poèsies Diverses. This collection gained him royal pension from Louis XVIII. His first novel that portrayed him as a novelist was Han D'islande, which was published in 1823. In 1822 Victor Hugo married Adèle Foucher.
